Hi! 👋 I'm Dereck Pouliot, a 28 years old fullstack web developer...

When I was 2 years old, my mother plugged me on the 💻 family computer...
The very first game she made me play was 🐇 Lapin Malin Maternelle 2. An absolute banger! ✨
I've been fascinated by technology and gaming ever since! 🎮

At 13, I wanted to learn programming to be able to create my own games someday! 🚀
I started to learn basic HTML and CSS, but that quickly turned out boring... 😅
Then, I found a nice class on Site du Zéro about creating your own video game in C! 🎯
I was hooked! I learned a lot of things about programming and game development even tho it was way too advanced for me at the time. 🤓
I still remember the chapter about the pointers and how I redid it like 4 times to try to understand it... 🤔

Around the same age, I started to delve more into hardware. We had 2 computers in our basement for me and my brother. 🖥️
I would take them apart, swap pieces between them, upgrade them with salvaged parts from old computers. 🔧
Eventually, I would install Linux on one of them (and brick the HDD, but that is another story... 😅)

I would also take apart any old appliances we would throw away at home: VHS players, DVD players, radios, home cinemas, etc! 🛠️

In highschool, I started making some money by jailbreaking 1st gen iPod Touch and filling my friends MP3 / ipod with legally obtained music from the internet. 🎵
I was known as the tech guy at school and no challenge was too big for me! 💪

At 17, I started attending CEGEP de Sherbrooke to learn more about computer science! 🎓
At that time, I would try to hack into every website and app I could find, listening on public wifi (which was everywhere at the time). 🕵️‍♂️
I was also learning more about programming and started to create my own websites! 🌐

Right after CEGEP, I went full time into entrepreneurship and programming! 🚀
I built a few businesses, but my most successful one to this day is EvalAuto! 🏢

These days, I'm working as a fullstack developer and in my free time, I'm still building websites and computers for friends and various tools and games for my own fun! 👨‍💻
I'm also a big PC gamer and an avid book reader. You can learn more about those things in the other pages of this website! 🎮 📚
